The 1500 spectators in Norway did get a great moment when Theo Pijper secured the final coming out of the last turn.

2011 FIM Long Track World Championship Final 2 was hosted by Riska Motorsykkelklubb at Forus Travbane in Norway.

The final ended up as an exciting match between the World Champion Joonas Kylmäkorpi and Theo Pijper. The two riders came side by side through the last turn, but the Dutch rider preserved larger speed towards the finish line and crossed first. "Fantastic to finish as I did in this final and it is a great satisfaction to win this event. Racing at such a well prepared track is a pleasure" says Theo to a local news paper.

Joonas Kylmäkorpi performed very well in the heats leading towards the final, but a weak start made him fight very hard through the final. Joonas Kylmäkorpi got an individual score of 29 points during the event and Theo Pijper and Richard Speiser 20 points each.

The results brings Joonas Kylmäkorpi into the lead of the 2011 FIM Long Track World Championship with 44 points, Stephan Katt holds second position with 42 points, with Richard Speiser in third place with 41 points.

Forus Travbane is a race track for horses used many times for speedway / Long Track races previously. However there was more than 20 years when such events were not allowed. Riska Motorsykkelklubb have organized Long Track races the last 4 years and made a step up hosting a FIM Long Track World Championship Final this year. The riders were very happy with the 1000 meter track as is very well prepared and allows high speed races.

The Jury President (Wolfgang Glas) was very satisfied with good race, well prepared organizer, and no injuries and congratulated the organizer and the Norwegian Federation (NMF).

Text: Riska Motorsykkelklubb Norway
Pics: Ubbo Bandy

On Saturday 26 June at Forus, near Stavanger, Norway, the second of seven FIM Long Track World Championship rounds will be organised. It will be a very exciting to host such a prestigious event in Stavanger, a city mostly known for the North Sea oil activities. Stavanger is an international city which offers nice accomodations and good restaurants. From the city you have easy access to one of the many boat trips on fjords with view over spectacular mountains.

The 1000 meter track of Forus, primarily used for horseracing, has a long tradition in being the venue for Long Track races and also for car races. The track was off limit for motor racing during nearly 20 years due to a too high noise level, but four years ago it was again opened for long track. Riders such as Gerd Riss, Sirg Schutsbach and Appi Mustonen and other top European long track jockeys could again enter the starting gates at Forus. It is a very fast track where Germany's ten times World Champion Gerd Riss holds the record. Now this record is up for grabs and we are looking forward to see if any of the 18 riders can challenge the spectacular time achieved by Gerd Riss. .

It is of course exciting to welcome this tremendous strong field of riders in Forus. Although the track has had very good riders in previous races, it never presented a field where any of the riders could win! We are looking forward to have our Nordic friend, reigning FIM World Champion Joonas Kylmakorpi here. Joonas met hard competition at Marianske Lazne (CZE) in the first WC final and will hopefully try to improve his 2011 standing at Forus. The event at Marianske Lanze shows that the German riders love the 1000 meter tracks as the six German riders took the 6 top places. Theo Pijper, Andrew Appleton and the rest of the riders have a job to do to re-arrange this standing.

The Norwegian "wild card" Kim Rudi Juritzen will get something to chew on at this race. On the other hand Juritzen knows the track well and has been racing at Forus many times.

The two substitutes are both from the local area where Inge Bjerk is a converted speedway rider and Willy Tjessem a seasoned long track rider.
Welcome to Forus!

Line-up 2011 FIM Long Track World Chamionsship Final 2, Forus/NO – June 26th 2011

Riding No Name FMN Country

1 Joonas Kylmäkorpi SML Finland
2 Theo Pijper FFM Netherlands
3 Richard Speiser DMSB Germany
4 Andrew Appleton ACU Great Britain
5 Stephan Katt DMSB Germany
6 Mathieu Tresarrieu FFM France
7 Jörg Tebbe DMSB Germany
8 Martin Smolinski DMSB Germany
9 Herbert Rudolph DMSB Germany
10 Richard Hall ACU Great Britain
11 Glen Phillips ACU Great Britain
12 Aki Pekka Mustonen SML Finland
13 Matthias Kröger DMSB Germany
14 Jerome Lespinasse FFM France
15 Josef Franc ACCR Czech Republic
16 Stephane Tresarrieu FFM France
17 Dirk Fabriek KNMV Netherlands
18 Kim Rudi Juritzen NMF Norway
19 Inge Bjerk NMF Norway
20 Willy Tjessem NMF Norway

Most of the 18 World Final riders were able to win Final 1 at Czech Republic but after 14 of the 15 heat races it looked like a German Championship, as all six German riders could qualify for he Grand Final! World Champion Joonas Kylmäkorpi from Finland missed all his starts, as he said, and finished on 8th position after the Semifinal heats. Dutch World Championship Runner-up Theo Pijper started excenlently, but the FFM license rider blew up 3 engines during practice and race and therefore ended on disappointing 9th position. Last years winner at Marianske Lazne, German "Catman" Stephan Katt began superbly, but in Heat 11 he had to be excluded by the referee, because he lost his dirt deflector during the race. Before the semifinals German Jörg Tebbe was the provisional leader, 2 points ahead of Katt. But Tebbe did not make the start in the first semi, finished last and country fellow Matthias Kröger won the race. As Katt won the second semi, he went into the final with most points (20) ahead of Kröger (18), Martin Smolinski (17), Tebbe (17), Herbert Rudolph (17) and Richard Speiser (17), all from Germany.
