Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto helped lead Team USA to its seventh-straight victory after ..

Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto helped lead Team USA to its seventh-straight victory after an impressive third moto win aboard his Kawasaki KX 450F amongst the best in the world at the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) at Circuit du Puy de Poursay in St. Jean-D'Angely, France. After finishing third in his first moto, Villopoto stepped up to claim the best overall result of the day with a 3-1. USA teammate Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Blake Baggett placed 17th in both motos. Showcasing his talent aboard a big bike, Tyla Rattray put his 2012 Kawasaki KX450F on the podium of the final moto of the day and helped propel South Africa to sixth in the final country standings with a 5-3. Dean Wilson's Team Great Britain finished fourth overall as he rode through an injured wrist to finish 9-27 in his motos. Going into the final moto of the day, Villopoto knew that his team sat nine points back of France in the overall standings. Compared to a mid-pack start he got in his first moto, Villopoto was near the front and made a great pass for the lead on the fifth lap. He was leading by more than 10 seconds, but slowed to celebrate the finish with Team USA teammate Ryan Dungey. "Every win at this event feels incredible," said Villopoto. "This one is definitely special because I haven't raced the event since 2008. It was hard to watch from the sidelines those two years and now that I'm back, it's better than I remembered. Coming into the final moto, it wasn't looking that great, but I knew that if Dungey and myself rode how we do in the states, we had a good chance." For Baggett, racing amongst the best in the world was a new experience. The different procedures and new competitors didn't seem to affect him on Saturday, but the track conditions changed drastically on Sunday and provided new obstacles. In typical Baggett fashion, he worked his way through the pack in both motos, including in the second moto where he came from 36th to 17th. "I was on the ground a little too much for my liking, but I didn't ever want to give up because I knew that every position counted," said Baggett. "I'm not really pumped with how I rode, but USA won and that is something to be proud of. It's a great feeling to be a part of something so special. Hopefully I can prove myself again next year and make the it back for 2012." The 65th running of the Motocross of Nations has come to a close and Team USA was able to secure its seventh-straight victory, along with adding another win to make the total 22. The impressive total is the most of any country since the start of the race in 1947. "Being a part of something so significant is definitely special," said Villopoto. "I've been lucky enough to race in four motocross of nations and every time I can't believe we were able to bring the Chamberlain trophy back to the USA." Over the past few years, Team USA had to dig deep to come out with the overall victory. The 2011 Motocross of Nations wasn't any different as Villopoto made sure an American finished out the last moto on top. With help from Dungey who finished second in the final moto, Team USA finished 13 points ahead of France. "Having been in this situation before in England, I knew that it wasn't over until the final race," said Villopoto. "It's easy to get down on how the day has gone, but everyone came together and got us revved up for the last moto. We went out and did what we needed to do in order to have a chance and ended up getting a little bit of a gift to put us on top." The Motocross of Nations has been known to bring out the best fans in motocross and the race in France was no exception. The fans lined the track and cheered with horns, bells, and whatever else that could help with a great amount of pride for whatever country was represented. "Whether they were cheering for us or not, we could hear them on the track," said Villopoto. "That was amazing because the bikes are pretty loud, but the fans were louder. I didn't care who they were cheering for because it helped us either way."

Team USA obtained their 22nd Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations victory in Saint Jean d'Angely ..

Team USA obtained their 22nd Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations victory in Saint Jean d'Angely ahead of team France and team Australia. It was not an easy win for the Americans, who had to give it all in the last race to take the Chamberlain Trophy back to the USA.
Before the third and final heat of the event, Team France was leading the Nations classification with a nine points advantage over the Americans and twelve points ahead of Belgium, so the home team only needed to obtain two solid results in the last race. The French were touched by bad luck, as Pourcel had to pull out because the mousse of his back wheel broke. However, Paulin did a great race and helped his team to be on the second step of the rostrum. Team Australia made history in Saint Jean d'Angely by obtaining their maiden podium in the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, while team Great Britain finished just two points behind the Australian squad and team Belgium obtained a very satisfactory fifth position. One of the favorites to fight for the podium today was Team Italy, especially after yesterday's impressive performance in the qualifying heats. However, the FIM MX1 World Champion Cairoli crashed twice in the first heat and he broke his left hand scaphoid and his ulnar styloid, which made him pull away from the third race. Lupino was not fortunate either, but thanks to the great performance of Guarneri (5-8), the Italians finished 16th. RACE 1 (MX1 & MX2)
The main event of the 65th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations started with Reed taking the holeshot and dominating the heat until the chequered flag. Roczen finished behind the Australian and he proved once more his incredible talent beating the 450cc machines. American Dungey started third, overtook Bobryshev in lap fourth, but he was surprise by Roczen by the end of the race. Both Searle and Rattray did very consistent races and finished fourth and fifth respectively. In the middle of the race the heavy rain surprised all the MX1 and MX2 riders and American Baggett could only finish 17th. On the hand, Pourcel had to stop in the pitlane because a stone had hit his goggles, but he went out again and finished eleventh, while his teammate Musquin ended eighth. The British team finished at the top of the Nations standings thanks to the fourth place of Searle and the ninth position of Wilson. Race 1 top ten: 1. Chad Reed (AUS, Honda), 35:52.640; 2. Ken Roczen (GER, KTM), +0:03.485; 3. Ryan Dungey (USA, Suzuki), +0:04.919; 4. Tommy Searle (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:21.469; 5. Tyla Rattray (RSA, Kawasaki), +0:30.845; 6. Tanel Leok (EST, TM), +0:32.870; 7. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, Kawasaki), +0:38.278; 8. Marvin Musquin (FRA, KTM), +0:44.042; 9. Dean Wilson (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:57.674; 10. Joel Roelants (BEL, KTM), +0:58.484; Nations top ten: Great Britain, France, Australia, USA, Estonia, Belgium, South Africa, Germany, Portugal, Spain. RACE 2 (OPEN & MX2)
The 68.000 spectators present in Saint Jean d'Angely went crazy when Paulin took the holeshot of the second heat and managed to finish first, ahead of Herlings and Villopoto. Besides, although Musquin was only 20th, France was at the top of the standings after the second heat. Team USA was nine points behind the French because Baggett struggled a lot and was only eleventh. Roczen did an incredible race and finished fourth, followed by Belgian Strijbos, who brought some hope to his team, as they were third in the standings after the second race, thanks also to the 12th place of Roelants. Dutch Herlings led the first laps of the race and starred in a dogfight with Paulin and Roczen in order to keep the first position until the end. However, the French crowd helped the home rider to win the race and Herlings finished second. Team Australia was not that fortunate in the second race because Moss could not start due to a mechanical problem in his bike. However, Metcalfe finished seventh, which kept the hopes up for the Australian. Anderson and Wilson finished 14th and 27th respectively, so the chances for Great Britain to finish on the podium were vanishing after such two results. Race 2 top ten: 1. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Yamaha), 34:14.392; 2. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), +0:02.424; 3. Ryan Villopoto (USA, Kawasaki), +0:02.813; 4. Ken Roczen (GER, KTM), +0:05.097; 5. Kevin Strijbos (BEL, Suzuki), +0:19.281; 6. Gareth Swanepoel (RSA, Yamaha), +0:45.403; 7. Brett Metcalfe (AUS, Suzuki), +0:45.914; 8. Davide Guarneri (ITA, Kawasaki), +0:56.746; 9. Carlos Campano (ESP, Yamaha), +0:57.873; 10. Arnaud Tonus (SUI, Yamaha), +1:07.283; Nations top ten: France, USA, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, South Africa, Spain, The Netherlands, Estonia, Portugal. RACE 3 (MX1 & OPEN)
The French crowd was desperate to see the gate dropping again and find out if their riders could fulfill their dream to win the Nations at home. However, they were touched once more by bad luck and Pourcel got his back wheel's Mouse broken and the race was over for him. It was all in Paulin's hands to finish on the podium and he actually rode really well and helped Team France to be on the second step of the rostrum. On the other hand, team USA knew that only two good results would guarantee them the overall victory and Villopoto and Dungey did not deceive his country and went 1-2 in the third heat. Rattray finished behind the Americans and South Africa ended sixth in the final Nations Classification. Reed could not bring another win to the team, but he finish in solid seventh position. His teammate Metcalfe made a mistake when he was riding fourth, but the Australian succeeded in obtaining their maiden podium in the Nations. In this third heat, Searle did another amazing race and finished fourth, but such result was not enough for the British to finish on the podium, as Anderson could only be 15th and the Brits had two points more than the Australian. Dungey (USA) took the individual MX1 victory, Roczen (Germany) won the MX2 and Villopoto (USA) won the Open class. Herlings (Netherlands) obtained the Ricky Carmichael award for being the youngest best-classified rider in the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. Race 3 top ten: 1. Ryan Villopoto (USA, Kawasaki), 34:51.718; ; 2. Ryan Dungey (USA, Suzuki), +0:00.465; 3. Tyla Rattray (RSA, Kawasaki), +0:05.182; 4. Tommy Searle (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:18.156; 5. Davide Guarneri (ITA, Kawasaki), +0:22.628; 6. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, Honda), +0:24.594; 7. Chad Reed (AUS, Honda), +0:24.916; 8. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Yamaha), +0:25.740; 9. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), +0:26.356; 10. Brett Metcalfe (AUS, Suzuki), +0:27.098; Nations top ten: USA, France, Australia, Great Britain, Belgium, South Africa, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, Estonia.

The 65th edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations started today in the hard pack of Saint Jean d'Angely with the three qualifying races. Team USA dominated completely the three heats and they will be the first ones to choose the starting gate tomorrow for the main event. Ryan Dungey was the winner of the MX1 qualifying heat, the rookie of USA team Blake Baggett dominated the MX2 race and Ryan Villopoto had no opponent in the Open class. After the qualifying races all the 36 countries taking part in this year's Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations were presented to the passionate crowd in Saint Jean d'Angely and they had the opportunity to hear some words from the top Motocross riders in the World. MX1 The first qualifying race of the day saw Bobryshev taking the holeshot in the MX1 class and put Russia at the front, but Dungey and Cairoli overtook Bobryshev already in the first lap and the Russian dropped quickly to the eighth position. From then until the chequered flag, the American and the Italian had a dogfight for the lead and it was Dungey who crossed the finish line first with just one-second advantage over Cairoli. Pourcel started from an initial fifth position, but he passed Bobryshev after three laps and succeeded in giving team France a third result in the first heat of the qualifying sessions. Reed rode fifth behind Bobryshev most of the race, but he managed to pass the Russian and hand Team Australia a fourth final result. Rattray from South Africa completed the top five thanks to his consistent riding. Gonçalves, who is riding for Portugal, was sixth, Estonian Leok seventh and Bobryshev eighth. The British rider Searle did not have a good start and when he was recuperating some positions, he made a mistake and had to settle down with the ninth position, followed by Barragán from Spain. MX1 Qualifying Race top ten: 1. Ryan Dungey (USA, Suzuki), 23:46.461; ; 2. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), +0:01.308; 3. Christophe Pourcel (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:46.425; 4. Chad Reed (AUS, Honda), +0:52.778; 5. Tyla Rattray (RSA, Kawasaki), +0:54.664; 6. Rui Goncalves (POR, Honda), +0:59.299; 7. Tanel Leok (EST, TM), +1:01.397; 8. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, Honda), +1:01.570; 9. Tommy Searle (GBR, Kawasaki), +1:29.250; 10. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, Kawasaki), +1:32.070; MX2 Team USA obtained another victory in the MX2 qualifying race thanks to the impressive performance of the rookie rider, Blake Baggett. The young American rider took the holeshot and pulled away until the chequered flag, crossing the finish line almost nine second ahead of Musquin from France. Musquin did not have a good start but he moved up to the second position already in the second lap. However, it was too late for the French rider to catch Baggett, as he had already opened a consistent gap with his pursuers. The third position was for Wilson from Great Britain, who had to move all the way up from an initial ninth position. He admitted he made many mistakes during the heat, but all in all he was very satisfied with the third place. Roczen did not have a good qualifying race and he ended fourth ahead of Roelants. The German started fifth, but he was already second after the opening lap. The FIM MX2 World Champion made then a mistake and dropped down to the seventh position and had to move all the way back again to hand Germany the fourth position. Roelants gave a very important fifth place to team Belgium, as well as Italian Lupino, who finished sixth. Austrian Rauchenecker started second in the heat, but he crashed when he was riding fifth and crossed the finish line seventh. Olsen from Denmark was eighth, Spaniard Butrón ended ninth and Irish Edmonds completed the top ten. The Australian rider Moss was riding tenth when he had to enter in the pit lane due to a mechanical problem. MX2 Qualifying Race top ten: 1. Blake Bagget (USA, Kawasaki), 24:45.804; 2. Marvin Musquin (FRA, KTM), +0:08.876; 3. Dean Wilson (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:11.331; 4. Ken Roczen (GER, KTM), +0:11.742; 5. Joel Roelants (BEL, KTM), +0:35.043; 6. Alessandro Lupino (ITA, Husqvarna), +0:55.250; 7. Pascal Rauchenecker (AUT, KTM), +0:57.149; 8. Stefan Kjer Olsen (DEN, Yamaha), +1:09.391; 9. Jose Antonio Butron (ESP, KTM), +1:15.543; 10. Stuart Edmonds (IRL, TM), +1:16.750; OPEN American Villopoto had no rival during the Open Qualifying race; in fact, after the American took the holeshot, he quickly opened a massive gap with all the other riders and nobody could stop him from winning the heat. The big surprise in Open class was the impressive performance of Italian Guarneri, who was selected just two weeks before the event to replace Philippaerts. The Italian started in a solid third position, but he quickly close the gap with Gautier and he took over the second position from the French. Home rider Paulin had also a good start, but he was not fully comfortable with his riding today. However, Paulin is confident that tomorrow he can fight for the top positions and help team France to be on the first step of the rostrum. Belgian Strijbos started from the sixth position, but he had a great rhythm and moved quickly up to the fourth place. It was then, when he fought for the second position with Paulin and Guarneri, but he could not follow their speed and ended fourth. After the bad result Australia got in the MX2 qualifying heat, Metcalfe went to the grid knowing that his country qualification for the main event was only depending on his performance. The Australian did not let his team down, and obtained a solid fifth place. Swanepoel from South Africa was sixth; Dutch Herlings could only be seventh after not starting really well, and Swiss Tonus ended eighth, ahead of Campano from Spain and the Czech rider Michek. OPEN Qualifying Race top ten: 1. Ryan Villopoto (USA, Kawasaki), 24:46.792; 2. Davide Guarneri (ITA, Kawasaki), +0:07.704; 3. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Yamaha), +0:08.708; 4. Kevin Strijbos (BEL, Suzuki), +0:09.677; 5. Brett Metcalfe (AUS, Suzuki), +0:11.170; 6. Gareth Swanepoel (RSA, Yamaha), +0:24.849; 7. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), +0:26.038; 8. Arnaud Tonus (SUI, Yamaha), +0:43.333; 9. Carlos Campano (ESP, Yamaha), +0:45.547; 10. Martin Michek (CZE, KTM), +0:52.961; Nations Qualifying Top Ten: USA, Italy, France, Belgium, Australia, South Africa, Great Britain, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland. TIMETABLE Sunday: Warm-up B-Final 8:40; Warm-up MXoN Group 1 9:10; Warm-up MXoN Group 2 9:40; B-Final 11:00; MXoN Race 1 (MX1+MX2) 13:08; MXoN Race 2 (MX2+Open) 14:38; MXoN Race 3 (MX1+Open) 16:08.

Monster Energy Yamaha have gone through a whirlwind of emotions in the last twenty-four hours with the maiden MX1-GP victory of Gautier Paulin in the Grand Prix of Italy yesterday and the news that Steven Frossard has finished his first season in the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship with an excellent second position on the YZ450FM. Unfortunately Frossard underwent a scan on his chest today (Monday 12th September) and the air bubble in his lungs that caused an infection and forced the Frenchman to sit out the final meeting of the season at Fermo is still present. The 24 year old winner of 2011 French and Swedish Grands Prix was advised that to compete this weekend would pose a health risk and therefore has to withdraw from representing his country in the MX1 class of the 65th Motocross of Nations on home soil at St Jean D'Angely. Monster Energy Yamaha will still count on the talents of Paulin for France, and fellow Monster Energy rider Carlos Campano is entered for Spain. Arnaud Tonus rides for Switzerland on behalf of Bike it Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey showed the world that he's a world-class racing talent at the 64th running of the FIM Motocross of Nations, hosted by Thunder Valley in Lakewood, Colorado, this weekend. Dungey took the individual MX1 class win as captain of Team USA, and was able to help keep the Chamberlin Trophy in America for another year. This marks the 21st time Team USA has taken home the top award in the FIM Motocross of Nations, and the second year in a row that Dungey and his Suzuki helped secure the win for America.

In front of a staggering crowd of 32,000 race fans, Dungey and his Suzuki fuel-injected RM-Z450 were the fastest in the MX1 practice session on Saturday, putting in the best time with all the power and performance RM-Z has to offer. Dungey was hopeful for a great showing in the qualifier, but suffered some setbacks that placed him fourth for the day. On Sunday, Dungey was determined to be back on top of the leader board.

Race 1 on Sunday featured the MX1 and MX2 class. Dungey got a great start on his RM-Z450 and took over the lead by lap two of the race. True to form, he then dominated the rest of the race. Dungey won by a margin of 5.5 seconds, making it known to the world that he's one of the fastest racers anywhere. After Race 2, which Dungey was not a part of, Team USA was five points down in the standings behind Germany, but looking to change that in Race 3.

Dungey poured on the power of his Rockstar Makita Suzuki and shot out of the starting gate behind his MX3 teammate in Race 3. Dungey eventually took the lead and again conducted a riding seminar on his RM-Z450, winning the race 10 seconds ahead of second place.

"This weekend was quite amazing," Dungey said. "The track was rougher and better than yesterday. I felt the pressure from Cairoli in the beginning, but the line choice increased as the race went on. This is right at the top considering what I have won this year. Everything must go right to win at this event. It is hard to put into words, but it's like the experience of a lifetime. I felt like we really stuck together as a team and that helped a lot. We never quit and always kept pushing. I want to thank the team and everyone behind us."

Dungey and his championship-winning RM-Z450 will now have some well-deserved off time before preparations begin for the 2011 AMA Supercross series.

German Ken Roczen had a great outing at only his second participation at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations as this year the 16 year old was the youngest rider to line up at the gate in the three races and even took the individual victory in the MX2 class. This stunning performance adds to the records of this young great talent, currently the youngest ever Grand Prix winner since his maiden win in 2009.

Missing out the award last year as he was five months older than eventual RC MXoN Award winner Herlings, this year Roczen took the honours and did it in style.

Ending the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship with a bitter second to Musquin due to several mechanical failures, Roczen was determined to put on a great show at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations and so he did.

Representing Germany in the MX2 class, the youngster almost won yesterday's qualifying heat losing a two way battle with American Canard. Though Roczen made up for that in today's races.

In race one he starred a strong recovery after yesterday's rival Canard crashed in front of him -together with Osborne- and blocked the way through turn one. Roczen moved from the tail of the group to an eventual sixth, even moving past fellow Suzuki rider and multiple World Champion Ramon on the bigger machine.

In race two instead Roczen had victory ambitions when he took the lead at lap two. Unfortunately the 16 year old could not resist 450cc mounted Townley's attacks and dropped down to second, then to third after Regal came through. The eventual third place of Roczen was Germany's best individual result of the whole day, helping the team to lead the classification after the second moto and to take the eventual podium.

In 2011 Roczen and his longtime sponsor Teka will both move to KTM and contest the World MX2 Championship with high ambitions.

KEN ROCZEN-BIOGRAPHY AND CAREER
Nationality: German
Place of birth: Apolda
Date of birth (d/m/y): 29/04/1994
Website: www.ken-roczen.com
First GP raced: 2009, GP of Portugal, Agueda, MX2
World Titles: 1, Junior 85cc
First World Title: 2007, Junior 85cc
GP wins: 4 (MX2)
First GP win: 2009, GP of Germany, Teutschenthal, MX2
Last GP win: 2010, GP of Italy, Fermo, MX2
2010 position in the Championship: 2/MX2, Team Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2

The biggest Motocross event of the year, the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, has come to its 64th..

The biggest Motocross event of the year, the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, has come to its 64th edition which will see the "Olympics" of Motocross come back to the United States of America and make its first appearance at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado. World MX1 Motocross Champion Tony Cairoli of Team Italy and World Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey of Team USA will give battle to the rest of the 32 Nations entering the event.

Last time the event was in the USA it was in 2007 when Team USA took an incredible home win at Budds Creek, Maryland. Home Team USA is actually on a winning streak since their 2005 victory in Ernee, France, but among the 32 teams entered in the event there are several ones looking to beat the most successful team at the Motocross of Nations. Second last year, France is the first on the list of those wanting to beat USA, followed by third placed in 2009 Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and several more all to battle amongst each other this weekend.

Following their dramatic win at Franciacorta, Italy, last year, Team USA is ready to defend the Chamberlain Trophy this year on their stomping grounds. For the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations' comeback to the USA, Team Manager Roger De Coster kept last year's MXoN debutant Ryan Dungey and added 2010 AMA Nationals Lites Champion Trey Canard (MX2) with Colorado's Andrew Short (Open) completing the team, both to make their first appearance at the event.

Dungey made a stunning debut in the FIM Supercross World Championship by winning the Title straight away onboard his 450cc Suzuki, the same bike he used to win the AMA Nationals later on in the year and give Roger De Coster his last two Titles on Suzuki-"The Man" joining KTM next year.

Canard battled tooth and nail with Christophe Pourcel -who injured at the last round of the series- for the eventual AMA Nationals Title in the 250cc class but ended third in the AMA Supercross series-West Coast.

Short will be really feeling at home this weekend as he is native of Colorado. The American was 12th in the World Supercross series and third in the Nationals, 450cc class.

Being second on the podium since 2007, the MXoN's comeback year to the USA, Team France is hungry for their second win at the event after their first and only Chamberlain Trophy from 2001. Coach Olivier Robert, who actually debuted in the role in 2001, has selected a strong line up made of Gautier Paulin in MX1, who replaces Christophe Pourcel after the latter has recently injured his shoulder, Marvin Musquin in MX2 and Xavier Boog in the Open class.

Racing his first MXoN last year and shocking the opposition with a moto win at his 450cc debut before crashing in the final heat, Paulin is determined to make up for a season he started with a leg injury, the mishap preventing him for chasing the MX2 Title.

That Title was won by countryman Musquin, again lining up in the MX2 class, which he won at his first ever Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations last year.

The squad will be completed by MX1 rookie Boog, steering the factory Kawasaki at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations after he entered the top ten of the 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Another strong presence at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations is marked by Team Belgium, winning the event 14 times against the 16 wins of Great Britain and the record of 20 wins of USA. This year Belgium will line up the factory Suzuki pair Steve Ramon (MX1) and Clement Desalle (Open), with the latter having finished second in the World MX1 Motocross Championship. The third man of Belgium will be Van Horebeek, who has successfully completed his first season with Kawasaki.

Nagl, Roczen and Schiffer will make Team Germany, who is another squad aiming at a podium finish in Lakewood. Nagl was chasing the MX1 World Title until he broke his collarbone at mid season while Roczen ended a bitter second in the MX2 World Championship after several mechanical failures.

Entering the top five last year, Team Great Britain underwent a lot of changes to finally line up Nicholls (MX1), America based Wilson (MX2) and multiple British Champion Anderson (Open).

Italy was also under the spotlight as their top riders Cairoli and Philippaerts received the all clear to ride only two weeks in front of the event after issues with their sponsorship were settled. Unfortunately Philippaerts injured his knee and will be replaced by Monni (Open). MX1 World Champion Cairoli will be eager to beat Dungey in the MX1 class while Lupino completes Team Italy in MX2.

Australia will be made of Metcalfe (MX1), Ferris (MX2) and Marmont (Open) while New Zealand will feature Coppins (MX1) -at his last International race before retiring to race just the Australian and New Zealand series- Groombridge (MX2) and Townley (Open). Almost racing at home, Canada will have Medaglia (MX1), Benoit (MX2) and Keast (Open).

Among the top riders attending the event will be GP winners Tanel Leok (Estonia), Barragan (Spain), Gonçalves (Portugal), Osborne (Puerto Rico), while Switzerland's Tonus will be back in action after taking his maiden Grand Prix podium in the last Grand Prix of 2010 in Fermo, Italy.

Some of the most exotic countries in the event are Japan, Brazil, Iceland, Philippines -at their first time in the event- Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala and Mexico.

Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross Team's David Philippaerts is unable to contest the 64th Motocross of Nations for Italy at Thunder Valley, Lakewood, Colorado on September 26th after suffering a second-degree strain of the media lateral ligament in his right knee. In another late development less than two weeks before the meeting team-mate Gautier Paulin will represent France in the MX1 category with a works YZ450FM and is currently testing in Italy.

Philippaerts had been called up for selection last Saturday at Fermo during his home Grand Prix to turn-out for his country for the sixth time at the biggest event of the season but upon entering a hard rut at speed in the second moto twisted his right leg. Philippaerts was able to complete the race and confirm his third position in the FIM MX1-GP World Championship on the factory YZ450FM but went immediately back to his home north of Milan for a medical opinion.

A scan yesterday revealed the damage that will not require an operation but needs the 2008 world champion to rest for a period of twenty days before he can then begin light cycling and running with a view towards improved fitness for the team's planned off-season testing schedule.

"This is the last thing I wanted to happen because the news at Fermo that we could go and race for our country was fantastic for us and all the fans," he said. "I'm lucky that the injury is not a third-degree tear because that would mean surgery. However I cannot ride nor do anything for nearly three weeks now; if the ligament has any more stress then it might go completely and that would put me out for quite a while," he added.

"I want to thank all the people that supported me at the weekend and through the season and I am sorry I cannot do the Nations for them, the team and all our sponsors. I really hope that Italy can do well."

After a successful second half of the 2010 MX2-GP campaign with victory for the YZ250FM in Holland and four podium results from the final five rounds Gautier Paulin is now ready to try and repeat his 2009 Nations race win on the larger machine. The 20 year old was called into the French line-up after a shoulder injury to Christophe Pourcel and now has only few days to get his YZ450FM dialled-in before flying across the Atlantic for the third time this year.

"While I am sorry for Christophe this is exciting news for me and I am proud to represent France as part of a strong team," said '21' who was one of the most exciting stars of the 2009 edition at Franciacorta. "There is not much time to prepare but we are working hard now to get ready on the bike and be as fast as possible for Thunder Valley."

The Motocross of Nations will see over 30 countries field their three fastest riders in a three moto contest. The historic event has been won by the Americans for the last six editions with France runners-up for the last three.

In three weeks time the 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations will take place in Den..

In three weeks time the 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations will take place in Denver, USA, on the September 26 weekend. Many riding legends are directly linked to such event, but there is one who stands out over the rest, Jeff Ward. Native Scottish but living most of his life in the US, Ward is the American having won the most Chamberlain Trophies courtesy of seven wins with Team USA.

His ever first FIM Motocross of Nations with Team USA was back in 1983 in Angreau, Belgium, with his teammates Bailey, Barnett and Glover. Ward was the only one of the team who continued representing USA in the following victorious two years, taking a break in 1986. Ward was back winning the MXoN in 1987 to take part in USA's successful streak until 1990. Being present at seven wins of Team USA, Ward is currently the American to have won most Chamberlain Trophies.

"It is a great feeling knowing that I hold this record. I put a lot of pride into winning that race every time. Each rider had their own fans but at the MXoN every fan was pulling for you to win. That was the best feeling!" Ward stated.
To win the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations you need the team spirit, as Ward says: "The best memory of taking part at a MXoN was always working with the other riders to be the best we could be, and getting to race with riders from around the world that I would follow.".

Team USA has a total of twenty MXoN victories and Roger De Coster, current USA Team Manager, has a lot to do with such excellent record.

"Roger is a great manager and also a great rider. He knows what a rider needs and being in Europe he would always have everything we needed to be ready on race day. There is a lot of stuff that goes on at the MXoN and having Roger made it all run smooth," Ward commented.

This year Team USA is made of Dungey, Canard and Short, who will try to defend the Chamberlain Trophy after the last five consecutive victories. The young American team will try to get closer to record of 13 victories in a row that Team USA holds and continue making History for their country. Jeff Ward defined the 2010 USA Team as the best they could have ever had and is positive that they will achieve the Trophy once more as they are all really talented riders and they have all a great heart to defend their Nation.

"I don't see why Team USA cannot beat the current record of 13 victories in a row, it was done once. I don't think we were thinking of putting together 13 in a row. It is so hard to win this race. It only takes a couple of mistakes and it's over. In my seven wins there was more than once that we got so so lucky to pull off the win. But that's what happens when you never give up and fight with heart!!! Go USA!" concluded Ward.

While waiting for this 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, the occasion marking the MXoN's comeback to the USA after Budds Creek 2007, fans can pre-order their tickets at the race track Thunder Valley's home page www.tvmx.net.

With 20 wins to their credit, USA is the most successful nation at this annual competition, followed by Great Britain with 16 wins and Belgium with 14.

This year 32 Nations have already entered the event as the list includes countries such as defending Champion USA, France, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan.
During the celebration of the eighth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, American..

During the celebration of the eighth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, American team-manager Roger De Coster announced the line up of Team USA for the 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations set for the following September 26th weekend in Denver, USA. Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short and Trey Canard are the selected riders to defend the 20th Title obtained by the American team last year in Franciacorta. Mitch Payton of Pro Circuit was also named Assistant Team Manager to help Team USA to conquer the Chamberlain Trophy in 2010.

The announcement took place at Saturday's Unadilla National in New Berlin, New York, site of the 1987 Motocross of Nations. The three riders, as well as Team USA Manager Roger DeCoster and the AMA's Joe Bromley, stood atop Gravity Cavity for the presentation, which is one of the most famous obstacles in all of American motocross.

"These riders are fresh, fast and each is riding at the top of his game right now," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. " All three are ready to face the best of the rest. We are honored that they are representing the United States and the AMA at this prestigious event on American soil."

Roger De Coster is totally convinced with his team and he is confident that they will be able to revalidate the Title.
"I think they are going to be an awesome team, and they will be very strong, and I am also happy that the race is in the U.S. again. I hope that a lot of fans turn out to support the race and our team. It is a very special event and I look forward to a great weekend in Colorado," stated De Coster.

"There may be a little more pressure on our riders because the race is here at home but the riders say that they will try to take it like a normal race, but you can't help it once you get there, representing your country, it's a different story! I told that Dungey last year because it was his first one, and after the race he said, 'Wow, you are right, this is a very big deal!'

"These riders train really hard, they've had good seasons and I think they will work good together as a team," De Coster continued. "I'm happy with our team, and I hope our other American riders will come out and support the team, considering it is in their own country. It's centrally located. Denver is an easy airport to get in and out of, and it's a good track with great views for spectators. The fans should come out, and we should have a successful event. Hopefully, we can win it."

Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Dungey, who made his debut in the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations last year in Franciacorta, will be the American Team Captain. Last year's MX1 Class Winner will ride again in the same class and will try to lead his team to the highest step of the rostrum as he did last year after winning the final and crucial heat of the Nations. Dungey was proclaimed the 2010 FIM Supercross Champion and is the current leader of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship with only four more rounds to go.

"I had an unbelievable experience last year in Italy," Dungey said. "Being a part of AMA Team USA is really an honor, you can count me in any time they call my name. This year is going to be another special one since we will be defending our home turf. Thunder Valley is a good layout for this type of event. The track is good and has elevation changes, big jumps and all that. It is just outside of Denver and close to a big airport, which I'm sure the international riders will appreciate. I think we're in for a really big turnout.

"They selected a good team, and I am honored to be captain with Trey and Andrew," Dungey added. "Trey's been winning and Andrew has been getting starts and leading early, which is huge at a race with this format. I like our chances in keeping the Cup here in the United States."

With a wide experience on the Motocross of Nations as a rider and also as team manager, De Coster will make Canard and Short debut in 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations. The Belgian has led the American team to the victory in 20 occasions and last year impressed everybody by bringing two rookies to the Nations, Dungey and Weimer. De Coster knows the pressure the riders have when representing their country and especially if they play at home.

"All of these riders have good personalities that will let them get along just fine, not try to impress anybody too much and do something stupid," De Coster said. "When you race in this event, the fact that you represent your country, a lot of people are going to come up to them and remind them about the history of the team and all the wins and how important it is to keep the thing going. It puts the pressure on, so the main thing for them is to ride within their abilities.

"Last year, with Ryan, I felt that he was riding to become one of the main guys in Italy, and I think his performance gave him the confidence to come back this year and start strong," continued De Coster. "I know that this event is important to him, and he will be doing everything he can to put the team in a winning position," he ended.

GEICO Powersports Honda's Canard will represent his country with his 250 cc machine. The 19-year-old is experiencing an exceptional season in the National Motocross series, being now second in the Championship behind Christophe Pourcel - another one going to the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations with Team France.

"Growing up and reading about the Motocross of Nations in the magazines, I've always thought this would be an awesome experience," Canard said. "I was at the event in 2007 when Timmy Ferry, Ricky Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto were on the team, and seeing those guys win then was really cool.

"It's an honor to be a part of such a big event, let alone to represent our country like this. I will do my best to make the most of the opportunity and help my teammates to win this race once again-and win as a team. I've never been involved in an event like this, and I am very thankful that Roger and Team USA have given me this opportunity. I am definitely going to make the most of it," Canard ended.

For Honda Red Bull Racing's Short it is going to be a really special event, not only because he will represent his country for the first time at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, but also because he will do it in his home track in Thunder Valley, Colorado. Short is now second in the point standings of the National Motocross Championship behind his MXoN team mate Dungey.

"It is an incredible honor to be chosen to represent AMA Team USA at the Motocross of Nations this year," Short said. "To be given this opportunity is something I have dreamt about since I was a little kid, and for it to become a reality is amazing. For the Motocross of Nations to be held in my home state of Colorado is just icing on the cake!"

When asked whom he expected the most pressure from, De Coster began with the French. "I think France will be very tough to beat. They were close last year and they take this event very seriously. They will have both Christophe Pourcel and Marvin Musquin on the team, and they are both very fast. Belgium is always a factor too, and then you have Italy. If they work out their problems and bring their best riders, they will be very good as well.

"There are a lot of teams that will be very fast, but I think we have a good chance, as always," added De Coster. "If something is going to beat us, it's going to probably stem from a problem, like a mechanical or a mass crash at the start. But we have a really good team, and I think we have as good a chance as anyone. I know that we have three riders that get along really well and they will work together as a team, which is very important at the Motocross of Nations."

With less than two months to go before the 64th edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, set to happen in Denver, USA, on the September 26 weekend, the announcement of Team France's line-up with Christophe Pourcel (MX1), Marvin Musquin (MX2) and Xavier Boog (Open) has created momentum around the event, expecting all top Motocross riders to battle for the coveted Chamberlain Trophy.

Having plenty of strong riders in the country, all involved in International Motocross Racing, the job of Team Manager Olivier Robert was no easy task but the French strategist pulled out one of the strongest line-up's the country has ever had.

With former MX2 World Champion and two time AMA Supercross Champion Christophe Pourcel making his comeback to the team after the 2006 MXoN to steer an MX1 Kawasaki, 2009 MX2 World Champion Marvin Musquin racing the MX2 on a Factory KTM and Xavier Boog completing the team in the Open class onboard the Factory Kawasaki, France aims at mounting one step upper on the podium after finishing second for three consecutive years – 2007, 2008 and 2009.

As Robert puts it: "This year we hope to do better than the years before and that does not leave a lot of possibilities other than winning. I am pleased to see Christophe coming back into the Team, I have seen him very motivated and even stronger than in the past. His team mates on the other hand have proved how good they are in the 11 GP's we have already seen."

Then talking about Boog, who injured his left knee ligaments at Lommel last weekend while racing the qualifying heat at the Grand Prix of Limburg and sits out of this weekend's Czech GP, Robert added: "The injury makes things a bit more difficult for him but we will see how he does in the following GP's, he should be fit in two weeks and his racing will eventually tell how fit he will be. If we will need to find a stand-in rider we do have a wide selection of racers anyway."

Robert has led the team since 2001, the year France collected their first and only Chamberlain Trophy with Luigi Seguy, David Vuillemin and Yves Demaria, therefore hopes in another win to successfully end this decade at the head of the Team.

22 year old Xavier Boog, at his maiden call in the team, has dropped from sixth to seventh in the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship points due to his injury. The French stated: "It is a great feeling to be in the French team and I hope to be completely fit when I come back and have the same speed as I had before Lommel.

At the young age of 15 years and three weeks Team Netherlands member Jeffrey Herlings ended the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations with the victory of the Ricky Carmichael Motocross of Nations Award Youngest rider.

Courtesy of his very young age, Herlings did establish a new record since the prize was created in 2007 -Carmichael's last MXoN participation- and won by 16 year old's Tonus (Switzerland, 2007) and Kullas (Finland, 2008).

Other 15 year old Roczen of Germany missed out on this year's award as he was born five months before Herlings.

After winning both the FIM Motocross World Championship Junior 85cc and the UEM Motocross European Championship 85cc in 2008 onboard a Suzuki, KTM and Herlings joined forces as the youngster was set to debut in the EMX2 European series in 2009.

Herling's season went extremely well and ended with a runner up spot in the Championship. Herlings challenged eventual Champion Charlier to win a total of eight moto's, though he was not experienced enough and finished with a 72 point gap from the French rival.

Being selected to represent the Netherlands at the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, Herlings lined up in the MX2 class. He finished seventh in the MX2 qualifying heat but completed only six laps in race one due to a crash. In heat two instead he was 20th as the Dutch Team (including Kras and Brakke) ended in 19th place. In the individual MX2 standings Herlings was 14th.

In 2010 Herlings will debut in the FIM Motocross World Championship MX2 inside the factory KTM team.

An eventful Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations got underway today, with Team USA winning and home Team Italy being hit by bad luck.

Debutants Ryan Dungey and Jake Weimer, together with MXoN veteran Tedesco, handed the USA their 20th Chamberlain Trophy as the Nation remains the most successful at this event. France was second on the podium courtesy of Frossard, Musquin and Paulin, with the latter crashing in the final heat and dropping the squad off the first step of the podium.

Belgium completed the podium with Desalle, Roelants and Ramon.

Germany and Great Britain rounded off the top five ahead of unlucky Italy.

With an entry list of 37 National Teams and a crowd of 90000 weekend spectators this Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations unveiled to be the best of all times at the end of a fantastic weekend of racing and general entertainment offered to the many passionate fans.

Giuseppe Luongo, the President of Youthstream, said: "This has been a fantastic success, it is a dream come true. We wanted to run the Nations on a permanent facility with a direct involvement of Youthstream, we wanted to show the level we would like this kind of race to be at, we wanted to show we can do a good job and we can exploit the structures we have, and we did all that. Our goal is to gather as many spectators as we can but we have to offer them a great show, services, all every major sport has for their spectators. In the year of the well known economic crisis we managed to increase the number of spectators and of nations attending the event. This is the Nations of the records and it looks a bit strange when it comes in the year of the crisis. Though this happened because we continued to believe and invest in our sport instead of cutting all budgets, we actually took the opposite direction. We believe this is one of the times when you have to work even hard er and invest even more. If you see all the greatest things in the world, they have been done in the most difficult moments. When life is hard there is just one single action to take: just look forward and keep going. Motocross is an exceptional sport and deserves even better than this, we will make that happen too."

Dr. Wolfgang Srb, the FIM/CMS President, continued: "It is simply the biggest and best Nations ever. We have reached a new dimension and touched new horizons and this is something I am stunned about. 37 federations have entered, a huge crowd came on site to watch, this is really the "Olympic Games of Motocross", this is all so big that I have no words to describe it. The riders did a great job entertaining the crowd with great racing, there was such a positive atmosphere around the whole venue as everyone celebrated the maximum expression of Motocross. What a big success, thanks a lot to Youthstream and Giuseppe Luongo, they did an outstanding job and I am really happy they are a long time contractual partner of the FIM. They deserve a lot of credit. Motocross has remained an affordable sport despite its high development in the last years, young riders and even entire families continue getting involved into it. Racing has remained a perfect harmony in between man and bike."

Vito Ippolito, the FIM President, ended: "The races we just watched were part of a really well organized event under all points of view, including show, sport and crowd. It was so spectacular that it gave a lot of dignity to our sport and the FIM is very much satisfied about it."

RACE 1 (MX1 & MX2)

Right from the start to the heat holeshotter Cairoli and runner up Reed showed the moto was going to be theirs through an opening lap dogfight. Eventually Cairoli came out on top with Reed following. The Italian opened up a gap which the Australian was not able to close, settling for an eventual second.

Dungey worked his way up from the bottom of the top five until the third position with Desalle following in fourth. The latter was handed the position by Barragan, who made a mistake after a solid start and dropped down to 12.

Musquin steered his MX2 bike to fifth being the best placed MX2 rider in the heat ahead of experienced Coppins and Searle, another MX2 rider inside the top ten.

Race 1 top ten: 1. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, Yamaha), 34:38.859; ; 2. Chad Reed (AUS, Suzuki), +0:01.582; 3. Ryan Dungey (USA, Suzuki), +0:28.687; 4. Clement Desalle (BEL, Honda), +0:44.470; 5. Marvin Musquin (FRA, KTM), +0:56.468; 6. Joshua Coppins (NZL, Yamaha), +0:58.590; 7. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), +0:59.120; 8. Jake Weimer (USA, Kawasaki), +1:02.003; 9. Gareth Swanepoel (RSA, Kawasaki), +1:11.705; 10. Ken Roczen (GER, Suzuki), +1:22.943;

Nations top ten: USA, Italy, Great Britain, Australia, Belgium, France, Republic of South Africa, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany.

RACE 2 (OPEN & MX2)

Paulin started well onboard the Open class bike and did dominate the second heat to place France ahead of the rest. Paulin headed the pack for the whole moto while Tedesco remained a steady second until the last lap, when a hard charging Philippaerts stormed to his tail and moved past at just four corners from the chequered flag.

The Italian's manoeuvre, which set the crowd on fire, was not matched by team mate Guarneri. Australian Byrne crashed into him at lap two, with both remaining out.

Tanel Leok took fourth ahead of Musquin, who could do no better than fifth onboard the MX2 bike. MX2 fellow rider Weimer instead made a mistake and dropped to 25th.

Race 2 top ten: 1. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Kawasaki), 34:57.775; ; 2. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), +0:03.095; 3. Ivan Tedesco (USA, Honda), +0:03.913; 4. Tanel Leok (EST, Yamaha), +0:37.402; 5. Marvin Musquin (FRA, KTM), +0:40.383; 6. Maximilian Nagl (GER, KTM), +0:45.341; 7. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), +0:55.500; 8. Ken Roczen (GER, Suzuki), +0:59.850; 9. Brett Metcalfe (AUS, Honda), +1:03.778; 10. Tyla Rattray (RSA, Kawasaki), +1:11.852;

Nations top ten: France, Belgium, USA, Great Britain, Republic of South Africa, Italy, Germany, Australia, Estonia, New Zealand.

RACE 3 (MX1 & OPEN)

The final moto opened with a massive tangle at the start straight, where moto 1 winner and Italy leader Cairoli went down. The MX1 World Champion's bike broke and he could not rejoin the race.

Barragan led the opening laps with Dungey following in second until he found an open door and snatched the top spot. The American would continue leading until taking victory at lap 17.

Barragan struggled and dropped down to fourth, with both Ramon and Philippaerts entering the top three.

Frossard made up for a difficult first heat courtesy of a fifth place finish but it was French countryman Paulin who could not provide the necessary support to the squad. The Open class rider went down at lap one, landing on some riders' bikes which had previously crashed.

Race was finished for Paulin and team France dropped down to second behind overall winner Team USA. Despite a tangle damaging Desalle's bike, Belgium made it to the podium in third. Germany took fourth ahead of Great Britain and Italy.

Dungey (USA) took the individual MX1 victory, Musquin (France) won the MX2 and Philippaerts (Italy) won the Open class. The Ricky Carmichael Award went to Dutch Herlings, who turned 15 on September 12.

Race 3 top ten: 1. Ryan Dungey (USA, Suzuki), 34:50.404; ; 2. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), +0:11.568; 3. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), +0:19.125; 4. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, KTM), +0:25.082; 5. Steven Frossard (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:32.480; 6. Joshua Coppins (NZL, Yamaha), +0:47.500; 7. Ivan Tedesco (USA, Honda), +0:52.548; 8. Maximilian Nagl (GER, KTM), +0:54.594; 9. Chad Reed (AUS, Suzuki), +0:57.549; 10. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), +1:13.780;

Nations top ten: USA, France, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Australia, Estonia, Republic of South Africa, Switzerland.
