The young drifter from down under decided the Junior Team World Cup semi-final in Diedenbergen for t..

The young drifter from down under decided the Junior Team World Cup semi-final in Diedenbergen for themselves. Led by junior world Champion Darcey Ward and with a commanding performance leading to 63 points they were able to qualify for the Junior World Team Cup final back in the Russian Balakovo. Only the Danish Team around Michael Jepsen Jensen could defy the kangaroos, so the decision to the first stage victory has been made in the penultimate round. With 58 points the Danish Dynamite secured 2nd place, far from the severed fins (19 points) and the young German (9 points), and thus also participate in the final in Russia. Already during the third scoring run of the day, due to the difficult passable track it came to a hard collision between the German Danny Maaßen and the Finn Niko Siltaniemi, with the Finn unhappily struck into the Barrier just few meters away from the, especially for this race attached, Airfence and had to be hospitalized for further investigations. Since the track was getting better and passable throughout the event, this should be the only serious accident that day. So weakened the Finns were early out of the fight for the important second place. For the disappointment of the home crowd also the German Team couldn´t intervene into the battle for runners up in any time. Too big was the difference in performance to the other teams. It was then up to the Australians and Danes to entertain the crowd of about 600 spectators this afternoon with the finest Speedway. Again and again they went into thrilling duels to win the race, with the reigning junior world champion Darcy Ward from Australia showing his extra class with a flawless maximum as the best of the day driver. Much to the delight of the fans he showed in almost every run a sample of his exceptional ability and literally flew over the 400-meter oval. However, due to a close Team performance the Danish team was able, to stay in touch to the young professionals from Australia. So the final, mathematical, decision-making first stage victory fell late in Heat 24 as Richard Sweetman made it all clear for the Aussies with his one point drive. Beautiful, sporty fair, pictures there was also the conclusion of the event at the awarding ceremony as the Australian team was doused with water by second-placed Denmark riders with great jubilation. The result in detail
1.

Denmark, under the calm guidance of one of the best team managers in the business, Jan Staechmann, ultimately proved convincing winners of the 2010 FIM Under 21 Speedway Team Championship. In an incident packed meeting, they took control in Heat 2 when star man Rene Bach won the first of what was to be a five ride perfect score. The lead was never to be surrendered with strong support from Patrick Hougaard and indeed the whole of the Danish squad.

The early challenge came from title holders, Poland but a succession of exclusions due to tape offences and falls was to prove very costly in the final outcome.

The Swedish Team with Dennis Andersson leading the way then put in a serious challenge for the top honour managing to reduce the Danes lead to only 2 points by the end of heat 17, however a failure to maintain consistency in the late stages saw the challenge fall away.

Great Britain always struggling after Grand Prix rider Tai Woffinden was forced to withdraw through injury will be disappointed but should not be downhearted with a competent display from a very inexperienced side. Lewis Bridger leading from the front with a creditable 11 point haul.

Tony Steele
